Wearing a face mask, Mr Xi took part in a video chat with medical workers in Whunan, greeted staff and residents and had his temperature taken.
"We will most definitely win this people's war," he said.
Mr Xi has remained primarily out of public view in previous weeks since the outbreak began and is yet to visit the epicentre of the infection in Wuhanh, spurring questions about his handling of the situation.
The number of people worldwide confirmed to have the contracted the infection has risen to 40,787, with more than 40,000 of those in Mainland China.
In China, more offices and stores in Beijing have finally reopened after the Lunar New Year break was extended to discourage travel and contain the new coronavirus, but many workers and shoppers appeared to stay home.
The number of confirmed cases in Australia remains 15 with no fatalities so far.
910 people have died in 21 countries around the world with 871 deaths in the Hubei province alone.
