A 26-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after a dramatic police chase across Brisbane that resulted in a tunnel being closed overnight.

Police say the incident began with an alleged carjacking about 6pm yesterday at a Bellbird Street address in Inala.

The owner of the car was unpacking it at the time it was stolen, police said.

The vehicle was later sighted, by the Polair helicopter, travelling on the wrong side of Edinburgh Castle Road at Kedron with its lights off at 7.10pm.

Vision from the helicopter showed the car at it mounted curbs and appeared to drive erratically through Brisbane's northern suburbs.

Police said the man continued to drive dangerously before parking the vehicle on Binowee Street, Aspley.

It will be alleged he then attempted to steal another car, removing the driver of that vehicle with force.

A neighbour came to the driver's aid and the pair have attempted to stop the man from driving away, police said.

As a result, the man ran back to the original stolen vehicle and driven at police.

Police say the man continued to drive dangerously along the inbound lanes of Sandgate Road, Northgate and at 7.35pm police pursued the man brought the vehicle to a stop underneath the Nundah bypass tunnel.

Dramatic video from the scene showed several police vehicles swarm on the driver.

Two police vehicles sustained some minor damage in the pursuit.

A 26-year-old Kedron man has been charged with various driving offences, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, obstruction and driving without a licence as well as an attempted robbery with use of violence charge.

The man appeared briefly in court today and was remanded in custody.

The matter was adjourned to June 15.
