Boy, 13, critical after suffering head injuries when struck by car
1 min readA 13-year-old boy is critical after being struck by car in north-west Sydney this morning.
Paramedics responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a car on Burdekin Road in Quakers Hill.
Five crews were dispatched and paramedics treated the teenage boy for head injuries.
He was transported to meet a helicopter and was treated by a specialist team at the scene.
The boy will be transported to The Children's Hospital, Westmead.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Peter Van Praag said the accident was a message to both drivers and pedestrians.
"When a child is involved it's simply gut-wrenching, it was extremely upsetting for the first responders on scene," he said.
"The toughest thing is knowing that if a person is in a critical condition, it's our responsibility to do everything we can to provide the life-saving treatment they need.
"The boy was given CPR by bystanders who did an incredible job under tremendously difficult circumstances."
More to come.
