Residents and schools in Los Angeles have been on the lookout after a giant bear was spotted wandering the streets yesterday.
The 180kg female bear was first spotted yesterday morning near a school in Monrovia but disappeared before authorities arrived on the scene.
The bear was back ambling around the streets this morning appearing calm and undisturbed.
Nine News US correspondent Tim Arvier is in LA today and said it is likely to bear woke up from hibernation and was on the hunt for food.
"Wildlife authorities say these bears often know what day is bin day and, indeed, it is bin day today," he told Today.
"She was pretty calm, walking around, people taking selfies wither he. The dogs were barking at her. She wasn't reacting and actually eventually fell asleep in a backyard before wildlife authorities tranquillised her and took her back to the forest," he said.
Bears are common on the outskirts of LA and members of the community have remain relatively undisturbed by the incident.
