On 14 February 1966, the Australian dollar was introduced. It replaced the pre-decimal Australian pound, which had been used since 1910.
The poster boy of the publicity campaign was cartoon figure Dollar Bill. He featured in the famous television advertisement called ‘Dollar Bill and Australians Keep the Wheels of Industry Turning’. He also made regular appearances in comic strips, newspaper crosswords, booklets, and brochures.
- 1 dollar = 10 shillings.
- 50 cents = 5 shillings.
- 20 cents = 2 shillings.
- 10 cents = sixpence.
