Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the Federal Government has adopted a “portfolio approach” to be in the position to nab a range of coronavirus vaccines.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the Federal Government has adopted a "portfolio approach" to be in the position to nab a range of coronavirus vaccines.
It comes as the government races to strike new COVID-19 vaccine deals as it stares down criticism of the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca jab.
"We have gained access to the Pfizer vaccine, we have gained access to the AstraZeneca vaccine, as well as other opportunities for other vaccines and more quantities of those vaccines," Mr Frydenberg told Today.

"We have followed always the best medical advice. You've heard from epidemiologists, microbiologists and other health experts in recent days that it is important to get the vaccine out across the country."
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is going through its final stages of the registration and approval process for the vaccine roll-out to begin next month, Mr Frydenberg said.

However, some Australian medical experts have suggested the AstraZeneca vaccine may not be effective enough to achieve herd immunity.
There is no suggestion the vaccine is unsafe.
Australia's Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly yesterday said concerns about the ability of the drug to create herd immunity was not justified at this stage of the process, and Australians should be guided by medical research findings from the TGA.
Mr Kelly said the "choice is not whether one is better than the other", when it came to rolling out a vaccine.
"It's which one is available to give the maximum roll-out of vaccine to save lives and to protect lives this year," he said.
"The answer to that is the one we can make here."
