Three little girls who were in the back seat of a car originally believed stolen in western Sydney have been found safe and well.

Shortly after midday a woman called Triple Zero, reporting that her three children and her car were missing after parking her car in Carramar.

Police issued an amber alert to find the three children shortly before 3pm.

Minutes after the alert was issued, police confirmed the children were found safe.

The three girls, aged eight, seven and two, were found sitting in the back of a Toyota sedan a block away from where they were reported missing.

They were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and other than slight heat-related stress they were released uninjured into the care of relatives.

The children's mother is currently being questioned by police but no charges are expected to be laid.
