A 71-year-old man has been charged with more than 10 serious domestic violence related offences after the alleged assault of a woman in Brisbane's south last night.

Police say the man forced his way into a 68-year-old woman's Chandler residence before assaulting her with a wooden club.

It will be alleged the man then threatened the woman, who was known to him, before leaving the residence.

Police attended and saw the man leaving in a red dual cab utility but were unable to intercept at the time.

The man was spotted and driving along the Cunningham Highway near Warwick and was arrested a short time after by officers from the Dog Squad.

He has been charged with 13 offences including deprivation of liberty, common assault, enter dwelling, contravention of a domestic violence order and unlawful stalking.

The man appeared in the Warwick Magistrates Court today.
